FTSE 100 Beats the S&P 500 as Cyclicals and Commodities Drive Returns

The FTSE 100 outperformed the S&P 500 in 2025, rallying 21% year-to-date and achieving its seventh-best annual performance on record. Despite lacking significant tech exposure (only 3.5% vs ~33% in S&P 500), the UK index benefited from strength in financials, miners, and commodity-linked stocks. The index reached a record high of 9,930, driven by rotation away from US equities and strong performance from cyclical and multinational companies.
